Zapotecs

From the plain, men see the mountains whose heights explore the skies, as terrestrial impulses that seek the union with what is highest.

Making this impulse their own, once upon in time a group of men conceived the ambition of constructing a city in which they could share the space of the gods, a celestial city.

With this end in view they turned a summit into a plain; a rectangular plain running from north to south; in each of its edges they would install platforms; the sides would be occupied by different buildings; others would be set in its middle part, according to a secret and perfect geometry.

There reveals itself too, naturally, the guidance of the cosmogonic concept of the Olmecs; there an entity whose head was created , the same as that of the very Coatlicue, is formed by the union of two heads of serpents; that entity is named Cocijo.
